With the way the economy is and inflation on the rise, let's face it! A lot of us are at home looking up DIY beauty remedies to save a dollar or two, especially those of us that are desperately in need of a facial and some hair care. As far as the hair is concerned, I can drop a few gems and point you in the direction of some easy to find herbs that have amazing, healing properties for the scalp & hair. Let's get right into it!

Rosemary

The first herb is Rosemary. Rosemary has anti inflammatory properties and is also anti microbial. It is also a good herb for hair loss. It is great for preserving your hair's pigments and stops hair from greying. This makes it good for color treated hair. I have noticed that rosemary also gives your hair an emmaculate shine with continued use. Mix olive oil and fresh rosemary and apply to scalp and hair regularly.

Chinese Hibiscus & Rose Petals

Rose petals have antiseptic properties that can help with scalp issues or irritation. Hibiscus also helps with dandruff and has antioxidants & vitamins that generally help with hair health. When the scalp is healthy, the hair will follow. Boil rose petals and use water to rinse your hair. Dry hibiscus leaves and add to castor or olive oil to help with dandruff and hair growth.

Alma

Alma is an Ayurvedic herb. Ayurveda is a practice heavily used in India and Nepal. It is essentially a historic alternative medicine system. Alma or Gooseberry is full of antioxidants that encourages growth and strengthens hair to stop hair from shedding and breaking. Add dried alma to heated coconut oil until you get a brown color, then set aside to cool. Apply regularly to scalp. You can also make a paste out of Alma powder with lemon juice & sit on your hair for 20-30 before you shampoo & condition your hair.

Saw Palmetto

This herb helps tremendously with hair growth and stops the production Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is an androgen. An androgen is a sex hormone attributed to testosterone and can cause male pattern baldness, even in women. Saw palmetto promotes fresh hair growth and the hair will grow more full and long. You can take 160 mg twice daily in the form of tablets to help treat hair loss or use organic saw palmetto oil. https://amzn.to/3SC1lM2

Curry Leaves

Yes, curry leaves! They are high in Vitamin B & C, iron, alkaloids beta carotene, proteins, and antioxidants that help strengthen your hair and stop it from turning grey faster. It also has calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium. Also contains amino acids. Use curry leaves and Alma to make hair growth paste. Add half a cup of fresh curry leaves, the pulp of one amla and a half cup of methi leaves to your mixer grinder. Grind to a paste and water if needed. Apply to the scalp, let it sit for 30 minutes then rinse and shampoo an hour later.

Holy Basil

This herb contain magnesium and eugenol that help to increase the blood flow to the scalp. Using basil juice as a treatment on the scalp leads to regeneration of hair follicles and improved hair growth. Using this herb also adds moisture to your hair. Combine fresh basil leaves and lemon juice to create liquid gold to treat hair loss, dandruff, and itchy scalp.

Ginseng

Ginseng increases blood flow to your scalp and adds nutrition and volumn to your hair. This boosts hair growth to a great extent. Ginseng increases dermal cells on the scalp which gives you really strong roots and hair follicles. The ginseng root is high in Saponin, an anti-bacterial compound, that will sweep away dandruff from the scalp and stop it from reoccurring. Make ginseng root powder by grinding the root. Then add to your shampoo and conditioner and use at least once a week.

These are just a few herbs that not only promote hair growth, but also prevents dandruff. Give these remedies a try and let me know if you see results. Thank you for reading.
